Abstract

The article points out the need to make efforts to understand latent crime, because if we do not know latent crime, we do not know the total crime, which is actually composed of known and latent crime. Therefore, we cannot effectively act on the causes of total crime. The next part introduces the research that has taken place in this area so far. In the last part, the article presents the results obtained from the comparison of the research carried out by the Institute for Criminology and Social Prevention in 2017 with the research carried out by the authors of this contribution in 2023, the purpose of which was to find out the development of latent crime over time, the willingness to report criminal activity, and the reasons for not reporting criminal activities.

Keywords: latent crime, victimisation, victims, comparison.
