ENERGY SAFETY OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC IN THE CONTEXT OF EUROPEAN UNION AND RUSSIA

The article is concerned with the energy security situation in the Czech Republic in the frame of European Union with a special focus on the Russian federation, as one of the main importers of energy sources to the area, and therefore a potential source of the risk of supply disruption. Thus, the paper contains the description of the long term energy strategies of the European Union, which, besides others, has the aim of increasing the region’s security by diversifying the energy sources and supporting the renewable. From the Czech Republic point of view, the problem of specific imports from Russia is discussed, because crude oil and earth gas seem to be an issue. Accordingly, the Czech Republic’s share on total supply instability in region is quantified. The last part is a characteristic and position of Russia in the supply system of energy resources.
