The Role and Activity of ISAF (INTERNATIONAL SECURITY ASSISTANCE FORCE)

The article deals with the ISAF’s role in promoting the stabilization and rebuilding of the Islamic republic of Afghanistan. ISAF conducts operations in Afghanistan to reduce the insurgency, support the growth in capacity and capability of the Afghan National Security Forces and facilitates improvements in governance and social-economic development in order to provide a secure environment for sustainable stability that is observable to the population. The main goal of the work is to explain ISAF’s role and activities in the stabilization process of Afghanistan. The article is completed by historical, geopolitical and operational environmental sequences. In the centre of attention are also international law aspects of the ISAF’s mission. The final section focuses on the current status that is characterized by increasing activities of anti-government elements and growing civilian and coalitian casualties. Further considers possible perspectives of the following evolution of the current status.
