Crime Analysis Instruction Manual
Mgr. Vladimír Oliberius, Czech Police District Headquarters Prague IV, head of the MoD Nusle Prague IV

The article acquaints us with the book “Crime Analysis for Problem Solvers in 60 Small Steps” written by Ronald V. Clarke and John E. Eck, as well as with the main findings presented in the book, namely with the steps in the analysis of crime and lawless behaviour at a local level. Interconnection of criminology theories and findings with applied practice, and thus with regular policing is very interesting and instructive. Very instructive are the manuals and practical advice how to proceed in crime analysis, how to use the crime analysis findings in the application of prevention measures in tackling crime at a local level. After presenting the main ideas the author describes the particular situation of the Police of the Czech Republic at the beginning of 2013. In closing, the author briefly compares “The Strategy of Crime Prevention for the Period 2012 – 2015 in the Czech Republic” with the findings of this work.
Key words: crime analysis, knowledge of the problem, crime at a local level, crime data gathering, crime analysis triangle, problem focused policing, situation prevention, risk objects identification, effective measures, crime prevention.
