Vehicle Crime and Some Problems of its Solution in Slovakia
Ing. Ľubomír Moravčík, PhD., Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development of the Slovak Republic, State Transport Authority

Car thefts and car frauds represent a substantial part of property crime in every country. The Black market in stolen vehicles represents a billion profit for organized groups of perpetrators. Conversely, for the vehicle owners, insurance companies and the society it means a large and painful loss. Approximately 1.2 million vehicles are stolen in the EU Member States every year, which represents the loss of 15 billion euros. It is therefore necessary for each member country, including Slovakia, to provide an adequate space for prevention of vehicle crime and not to move this crime as a marginal issue aside.
Keywords: vehicle crime, vehicle legalization, vehicle originality check, stolen vehicle, vehicle documents.
