NEW KNOWLEDGE OF AFTER SHOT PRODUCT DISPERSION PATTERNS INVESTIGATION
VÁVRA Rudolf, KMEJČ Tomáš
For purposes of the reconstruction of firearms incidents (murders, suicides, accidents, encounters) it is important to know the shooting distance. For its determination (it is referred usually as muzzle-to-garment or muzzle-to-target distance) it is necessary to determine the bullet entrance hole and gunshot residues pattern by examining the area around this hole.
Gunshot residues distribution and gunshot residues pattern are functions of many variables. When determining the muzzle-to-target distance, it is necessary to take in consideration the unique and unrepeatable character of each shot. This uniqueness is a result of the turbulent flow of propellant gases. For the right interpretation of results it is important to know the „history“ of the examined gun – that is, what a sort of ammunition it has used before, how much of this ammo it has fired off and how the gun has been cleaned and stored.
