The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict From a Geopolitical Perspective

doc. Ing. Dr. Štefan Danics, Ph.D., Police Academy of the Czech Republic in Prague, Faculty of Security Management, Department of Security Studies

The article perceives the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as a dispute over territory and analyses its geopolitical context and implications in the Middle East, as well as in the world. It explains the geopolitical shifts in the region as the cause of the Iranian-backed Hamas terrorist attack on Israel. Hamas is using Israel’s retaliatory war in the Gaza Strip to spread anti-Zionism, gaining support worldwide. Once again, stability in the Middle East is threatened and deep-rooted problems are surfacing, preventing the normalisation of relations between Israel and the Arab states, which could lead to a regional conflict. Through the lens of geopolitics, the State of Israel is facing the dilemma of whether it will proceed to resolve the Palestinian issue or put it back again, seizing more Palestinian territories in the Gaza Strip and ‘allowing’ the affected population to migrate on humanitarian grounds.

Keywords: Israeli-Palestinian conflict over territory, Hamas terrorism against Israel, spread of anti-Zionism by Hamas, geopolitical shifts in the Middle East and their implications, geopolitical dilemma of the State of Israel.
