Trends in Russian Organized Crime

The article presents the basic characteristics of the Russian organized crime. The text briefly discusses developments since the 1990s while the period from 2008 to 2019 is analyzed in more details. The work is based on secondary data available in the Russian Federation. Furthermore the study focuses on selected activities of the Russian organized crime in the Czech Republic that have been monitored by the Security Information Service of the Czech Republic (BIS) for a long time. Based on the above information, we can state the changing manifestations and activities of the Russian organized crime which primarily seeks how to legalize the proceeds of crime and influence the political, security and business spheres. The current Russian organized crime is globalized which often leads to its links with foreign organized crime groups (e.g. in Italy, Colombia, China, the USA).
