WHAT ARE THE PREMISES WE CONSTRUCT OUR PUBLIC SPACE ON?
NESVADBA Petr:
The author means, that the fall of public space and its transformation in a kind of “projection” of individual or group interests is one of disturbing trends of present society. He (the author) returns to the roots of the European way of thinking and he proves, that the engagement in the care for “the polis” is a part of the antic heritage. The core of article is author’s formulation of the premises for starting the thread of turning to matter-of-fact argued and consensually agreed way of searching and creating the public space, where members of the social communication and interaction could meet and try better understanding each other. According to author’s opinion, the key condition for this is the suspension of exclusiveness of personal stand-points – in other words, the ability to view and to respect “the other” as “the extraneous”. Then, we can see the public space as “a space between” or “a space of the overlap”, which establishes not only shared speech (dialog) but the shared activity too.
