Human Scent and ITS Preservation as a Docummentary Evidence – Method of Scent Identification

The authors in their paper “Human scent and the period of its preservation in documentary evidence – method of scent identification” is focused on relevant and interesting area of proving process in criminal proceedings which is frequently used in the Czech and Slovak Republic. It deals with a criminalistics method of person identification while using the method of scent identification – method of scent containers. (MPI – MPK) This method was scientifically developed in relation to qualitative approaches as well as in connection with criminal law procedures. General courts in the Czech Republic as well as in the Slovak Republic consider the method of scent identification as one of relevant and acceptable forensic science methods which assists in complex identification weather the accused is guilty. Nevertheless, bearing in mind that in the court practice there are frequent objections against this method, the authors have decided while applying the scientific approach to conduct a scientific research to prove the fact that human scent can be preserved in documentary evidence exhibits, all from the perspective of proving the preservation of scent on the items. With regards to the fact that this scientific method is used in also in other countries the authors consider beneficiary to present their finding for wider expert audience.
